The Indian agricultural system is passing through a critical phase. Even after more than seven decades of Independence, the condition of farmers is a cause for concern for the government. It is a fact that since independence, agricultural production has increased manifold, but as far as farmers’ income is concerned, it is either stagnant or has recorded insignificant increase. The farmers are in distress and their miserable condition has compelled them to stage protests against the government’s policy. Time has come for a paradigm shift in agricultural strategy from an increase in production alone to an increase in farmers’ income.

Keeping the above-mentioned facts in mind, the Prime Minister’s 7-Point Programme has been announced to mitigate the situation. The Prime Minister’s initiative can prove a silver lining in dark cloud, provided these policies are implemented in a proper way.
