I’ve always written poetry, usually on little scraps of paper. Sometimes to someone, sometimes to myself. I love words and often seek to use the more unique and obscure when expressing my ideas. A few years ago, I found myself more stationary than I’d ever been before due to a back injury, my life became the spaces in my house, neighbourhood and town. So, I started writing about what I saw around me and what had been. It was a way to release my emotions and order my thoughts on the world. Posting on social media gave me connections with family and friends, old and new. This led to a magical collaboration with my cousins who’ve helped me have the courage to publish my work. We all have poetry within us that’s waiting to emerge given the clarity of thought that comes from having to stay still.
